Details on Section 232 Tariffs on Aluminum and Steel

On March 8, 2018, the President issued Proclamations 9704 and 9705 imposing additional tariffs on Aluminum and Steel products into the United States. The new duty is set to become effective on goods entered on or after March 23, 2018.


In summary, steel products (Ch. 72 and 73 of HTS) are subject to an additional 25% ad valorem and aluminum products (Ch. 76 of HTS) are subject to additional 10% ad valorem.


Country Exemptions:

All countries of origin except Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, South Korea, Brazil and member countries of the European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom).


However, the exemptions are set to expire April 30, 2018.

As of May 1, 2018, all countries of origins are subject to the additional tariff.
